Pro Fantasy Baseball 2006 Draft Report
Sleepers
2006 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers
Level A Sleepers - These are either well-known, established fantasy players who are projected to do much better than their 2005 statistics or players who broke out last year and could be the new fantasy baseball studs. These players are expected to higher draft picks.
Level B Sleepers - They have shown potential in the past and this may be their year.
Level C Sleepers - These are either rookies or long shots that have no previous fantasy record but could start for your team and be star.
Potential - Just as the name implies. Potential to improve. The levels are for the type of sleeper, not their ratings or their potential. Most Level C Sleepers will have high potential numbers. The more established players usually have the least potential to grow, but they are not the least in value.
Level Player Pos Age Potential
A Ryan Howard - Phillies - Replaces Jim Thome at 1B, who was traded because of him. .288 - 22 HR's - 63 - RBI's 51 Runs - 312 at bats. Beware of his 100 strikeouts. 1B 26 9.2
A Chad Tracy - Diamondbacks - Will start at 3B, but also qualifies for 1B and OF in most leagues. Played solid in 2004 and broke out in 2005. Should continue to improve. .308 - 27 HR's - 72 RBI's - 73 Runs. Shows some speed with his 37 doubles, 4 triples and 3 stolen bases. 3B

A Jorge Cantu - Devil Rays - Came up big in 2005 after a solid 2004 when he hit .301 with 2 HR's. .286 - 28 HR's - 117 RBI's - 73 Runs. The clutch hitter also popped 40 doubles. 2B

A Robinson Cano - Yankees - Good hitter with a little pop, but not much speed. .297- 14 HR's - 62 RBI's - 78 Runs - 522 at bats. Should have nice stats hitting in the Yankee line up. 2B 23 8.9
A Jhonny Peralta - Indians - Cleveland has a big offense and is a hitters park. Peralta is for real, it is just of question of how real. .292 - 24 HR's - 78 RBI's - 82 Runs. Is a long shot, but could make a run at #1. SS 24 8.5
A Clint Barmes - Rockies - After a red-hot start an injury and a slow return hampered his rookie season. .289 - 10 Hr's - 46 RBI's - 55 Runs - 350 at bats. Could be very good in 2006, especially playing in Colorado. SS 27 8.5
A Mike Lowell - Red Sox - Bombed in 2006 after being a consistent fantasy starter. The move to Boston can only help. .236 - 8 HR's - 58 RBI's - 56 Runs - 500 at bats. Lowell was good for .280 and 25 HR's before '05. BAtted .293 with 27 HR's in '04 worth a late round shot. 3B 32 8.2
A Jeff Francoeur - Braves - Played like a stud from day 1. Won the N.L. Rookie of the Year. .300 - 14 HR's - 45 RBI's - 41 Runs - 257 at bats. If he improves from his rookie debut, he will be a fantasy stud this year. OF 22 9.7
A Maggilo Ordonez - Tigers - Has battled injuries over the last couple years but has played well when available. .302 - 8 HR's - 46 RBI's - 38 Runs - 305 at bats. Was a consistent .300 - 30 HR's - 100 RBI fantasy All-Star before the injury and could easily return to dominance. OF 32 7.9
A Grady Sizemore - Indians - Hits in a great ballpark and in a great line up. Came out of the gates to be a all-around fantasy All-Star .289 - 22 HR's - 81 RBI's - 111 Runs - 22 SB's - 640 at bats. Can hit in all fantasy categories; 11 Triples and 37 doubles. OF 23 8.5
A Aubrey Huff - Devil Rays - Huff was a sure .300 - 30 HR's - 100 RBI type player. Improved in the second half after a slow start. .261 - 22 HR's - 92 RBI's - 70 Runs - 575 at bats. Will hit right in the middle of a good-hitting Tampa Bay line up. OF

A Matt Holiday - Rockies - Broke out in 2005 and became a solid all-around fantasy starter. .307 - 19 HR's - 87 RBI's - 68 Runs - 14 SB's - 479 at bats. Had a nice second half after fully taken over the starting job and batted .318 with 15 home runs and 64 RBI's. OF 26 8.8
A Josh Beckett - Red Sox - He has been the next Roger Clemens for the last few years so it is fitting he goes to Boston to finally try to fulfill his potential. 15 wins - 8 losses - 3.38 ERA - 166 K's - 179 innings. Health is the big if. But if he is healthy expect 20 wins, but possibly with a higher ERA. SP 26 8.9
A Zach Duke - Pirates - The left has the tools to be a stud, but playing for the pitiful Pirates will hinder his ability to win. 8 wins - 2 losses - 1.81 ERA 58 K's - 84 innings. All upside except wins and he isn't a bi strikeout pitcher SP 23 9.5
A Felix Hernandez - Mariners - Will probably go pretty high in most drafts. Don't overrate him in the draft, but don't let him slip by either. 4 Wins - 4 Losses - 2.67 ERA - 77 K's - 84.1 innings. Makes a great keeper league pick. Has a huge future. SP 20 9.6
A John Patterson - Nationals - Coming into his third season Patterson may blossom into one of the better pitchers. Strong arm and a good strikeout pitcher. 9 wins - 7 losses - 3.13 ERA 185 K's - 199 innings. The improved Nationals offense could mean a 15 game winner. SP 28 9.1
A Scott Kazmir- Devil Rays - The highly touted prospect of 2005 played very well. 10 Wins - 9 Losses - 3.77 ERA - 174 K's - 186 innings. Another great keeper league pick. Went 7-2 with a 2.72 ERA in the second half. If the Devil Rays bats improve as expected he could win 20. SP 20 9.6
A Eric Gagne - Dodgers - The most dominate closer in baseball is back and while he may start slow and carries some risk with his return from a major injury, the payoff will be huge. RP 30 9.2
A Jose Valverde - Diamondbacks - Now fully recovered from an injury, Valverde will close for Arizona and could dominate. 15 Saves - 3 Wins - 4 Losses - 2.44 ERA - 75 K's - 61 innings. Arizona has improved
and plays in many close games which could mean many
save opportunities.
RP 26 9.0
A Ryan Dempster - Cubs - The talented pitcher finally found his niche. Don't let his season ending ERA fool you, he dominated as a closer. 33 Saves - 5 Wins - 3 Losses - 3.13 ERA - 89 K's - 63 innings. Dempster comes into 2006 with a chance to become a top 5 closer. RP 29 8.9
