Jim Johnson To Get Save Chances

Baltimore Orioles - Jim Johnson

Mike Gonzalez has been placed on the DL with a shoulder injury, which could explain his 2 blown saves in the opening week of the season.

Johnson finished 2009 as the O's closer with 9 second half saves. The
26-year-old right hander has a 1.00 WHIP in 3 IP with 3 K in 4 games this year.

Johnson isn't exactly standard closer material, but is solid.  He is not likely to keep the job for the remainder of the season and should only be picked up id you are in serious need of saves.

Sherrill Traded to the Dodgers, Jim Johnson to Close

Baltimore closer George Sherill was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers today for two minor league prospects. Sherrill, who had been enjoying a terrific season for Baltimore (20 Sv, 39 K's in 41.1 innings), will see his fantasy value evaporate as he slides into a set up roll in Los Angeles. Jim Johnson (6% owned in Yahoo Leagues) is the likely replacement in Baltimore, and is worthy of an add in all formats. Scout C.P. Staley

Ray and Johnson to Get Save Chances

Relief pitcher and former closer Chris Ray will be part of a closer-by-committee with current closer Baltimore Orioles' closer George Sherril. Jim Johnson could see some save chances while it is now reported that former closer Danys Baez will not get chances. The former closer Chris Ray could be the best bet at this point because it was his job before he was injured, but Jim Johnson is playing the best right now. Both are worth looks if you need saves Sin City Scout
