| Travis Snider - Toronto
Blue Jays - It is hard to believe he is just 23
and yet has been up and down with the Blue Jays for three
seasons. Snider has shown his abilities in the three seasons
amassing 612 at bats and hitting 25 home runs, 40 doubles
while batting .255. He had an excellent finish to the
2010 season which included five home runs in the last
ten games and batted .304 in September.
The former number one draft pick had a excellent minor
league career where he totaled 1,412 at bats and batted
.301 with 69 home runs. All of this points to a breakout
season for Snider in 2011 where he can hit 25-30 home
runs and top 90 RBI's. |
RF/LF |
Dexter Fowler
- Colorado Rockies - He has
played solid fantasy ball for back-to-back seasons,
batting .262 with 10 home runs, 49 doubles and 24 triples
and 40 stolen bases with 872 at bats. The Rockies see
him as their future full-time center fielder and the
hope is he plays full-time in 2011.
His lack of at bats is due to several factors. First
Fowler is a switch-hitter, but his weakness against
righties (bats just .243) kills his overall average.
With Seth Smith hitting well against righties, it makes
it an easy platoon for the Rockies. In addition, his
greater weaknesses are actually playing on the road
and playing at night. He bats .300 at home and just
.220 at home and he bats .301 in the day and just .239
at night.
The hope is as he matures (he will be turning just 25)
he improves the weaknesses. If he does you are looking
at a .280-.290 leadoff hitter for the Rockies. He can
pop 10 home runs, 10-15 triples and steal 30-40 bases
with a break out 2011. |

| Brian Matusz -
Baltimore Orioles - One of the most highly-touted
pitching prospects in baseball began to show why in the
second half of 2010 when he went 7-3 with a 3.63 ERA and
63 strikeouts in 72 innings. More impressively Matusz
finished 6-0 with an ERA under 2.00. The 4th overall pick
of the 2008 draft went 11-2 with a 1.91 ERA with 121 strikeouts
in 113 innings in his short minor league career. The 24-year-old
lefty is simply going to be great, it is just a matter
of when. |

| Max Scherzer - Detroit
Tigers - The young prospect had a bad start in
2010, but finished strong going 10-5 with an ERA under
2.50 after mid June. Better yet is his studly 9.0 K/9-ratio.
This is what can separate him from the pitchers who rank
near him and propel into being a fantasy stud. He is poised
for a breakout season of 15 plus wins, with an ERA of
3.50 or lower and over 200 strikeouts. |
SP |
| J.A. Happ - Houston
Astros - The former Phillies prospect was the key
player in the Roy Oswalt trade. In his career the lefty
has gone 19-9 with a 3.27 ERA and 220 strikeouts in 289
innings pitched. If the Astros can play .500 ball, Happ
can easily win around 15 games with a ERA around 3.00. |
SP |
| Daniel Hudson - Arizona
Diamondbacks - He dominated for the Diamondbacks
after being acquired from the White Sox, going 7-1 with
a 1.69 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. He went
25-9 with a 2.77 ERA and 275 strikeouts in 241 innings
in his minor league career. Drafting a young pitcher is
always risky and it is likely that it will take a couple
more seasons for Hudson to fully develop, but the stats
don't lie a Hudson could be ready to breakout in 2011. |
RP/SP |
| Jhoulys Chacin - Colorado
Rockies - He made quite a rookie debut positing
a 3.28 ERA and striking out 138 batters in 137.1 innings
pitched. It is always chancy drafting a pitcher who puts
up only one good season, many times they regress in the
their second season, but those numbers combined with playing
for a winning team make Jhoulys Chacin a breakout candidate
and a possible draft-day bargain. |
SP |
| Drew Storen - Washington
Nationals - One of the top pitching prospects in
baseball was always being groomed to be a closer and he
got a bit of a chance at the end of 2010 and pitched solid-ball
nailing 5 of 7 saves. He is only 23 so he needs to mature,
but he has all the stuff to be a great closer. The Nationals
look to be much more competitive in 2011 and this could
lead Storen to a 35 to 40 save season. |
RP |
| Carlos Carrasco -
Cleveland Indians - A deep-sleeper, especially
pitching for the Indians. The 24-year-old got his second
call-up at the end of the season and went 2-2 with a 3.83
ERA and 38 strikeouts in 42.2 innings.
In 2010 Carrasco went 10-6 with a 3.65 ERA and 133 strikeouts
in 150.1 innings for AAA Columbus. |
