| Domonic Brown - Philadelphia
Phillies - The 23-year-old is not quite ready to
be a star, but he is being handed the starting right field
spot after the departure of Jayson Werth. Brown has a
good combination of speed and power that can lead to a
20 home run 20-30 stolen base rookie season. He hit 15
home runs in AA Reading with 215 at bats and five more
in AAA Lehigh Valley with 105 at bats before being called
up to the Phillies where he hit two more with 62 at bats. |
LF |
| Desmond Jennings - Tampa
Bay Rays - He was going to be handed the starting
job with the departure of Carl Crawford. Now the Rays
have added Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon to the roster,
so an everyday job isn't likely unless he is playing well
from day one.
He has been solid in the minors thus far, but a bit below
expectations. In AAA Durham he batted .278 with three
home runs, six triples and 36 stolen bases with 399 at
bats.
Jennings has big-time talent and he will eventually be
an everyday starter. His spring training will likely determine
his playing time early on in 2011. |
OF |
| Eric Hosmer - Kansas
City Royals - The 3rd-overall-pick of the 2008
draft might be a year away from getting the call. He batted
.313 and hit 13 home runs with 195 at bats in 2010 AA
NW Arkansas. All the talent is there with Homser and the
Royals have a lot of young prospects, so there may be
a waiting list for call-ups in Kansas City. |
1B |
| Bryce Harper - Washington
Nationals - The 2010 first-overall-pick is a bit
young to be on the fantasy radar, but he is expected to
move up very quickly and after the success of Jason Heyward,
he needs to at least be a consideration to watch in 2011.
Harper played junior college ball for Southern Nevada
University where they use wooden bats and this will speed
up his adjustment to professional baseball. Harper is
swinging a bat that measures 36 inches and weighs 47 ounces.
Most players use a bat that’s between 30 and 34
ounces, and thus Harper's power is off the charts. In
fact, he is known for clobbering 560-foot home runs...home
runs. Once again, a bit early to speculate on an
18-year-old, but you never know. |

Player |
Pos |
| Craig Kimbrel -
Atlanta Braves - He dominated AAA Gwinnett in 2010
recording 23 saves with a 1.62 ERA while posting 83 strikeouts
in 55.2 innings. He then dominated the big boys going
4-0 with 1 save and a 0.44 ERA while posting an incredible
40 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.
Kimbrel and Jonny Venters could share closing duties this
season according to Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, but
as the season goes if Kimbrel continues to dominate, the
job will be all his. |
RP |
| Jeremy Hellickson -
Tampa Bay Rays - The Rays' big-prospect looked
sharp in his late season call-up posting high-quality
starts in all four of of his big league starts. He finished
the season 4-0 with a 3.47 ERA and posted 33strikouts
in 36.1 innings.
In two years in AAA Durham Hellickson went 18-4 with a
2.47 ERA and 193 strikeouts in 174.3 innings. |
SP |
| Chris Sale -
White Sox - The 6-6 lefty was the White Sox 2010
first-round-pick. He has only pitched ten innings in the
minors after a stellar college career, but still got the
late-season call and went 2-1 with 4 saves, a 1.93 ERA
and 32 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.
He will likely be kept in the bullpen to start the 2011
season, but by the second half he is pitching well, Sale
will be in the rotation. |
SP |
| Kyle Drabek -
Toronto Blue Jays - The 23-year-old son of former
Pirates star Doug Drabek was a major centerpiece of the
Roy Halladay trade with Philadelphia and he went out in
2010 and showed why, posting a 14-9 record with a 2.94
ERA and 132 strike-outs over 162 innings at Double-A New
Hampshire. If Dustin McGowan or Jesse Litsch continue
to struggle to return to the rotation, that may open up
the spot early for Drabek in the back end of the rotation. |
SP |
| Ivan Nova -
New York Yankees - He pitched well for AAA Scranton
in 2010 going 12-3 with a 2.86 ERA and 115 strikeouts
in 145 innings and got the late season call. If he wins
a spot in the Yankee rotation, Nova will be worth being
drafting. |
