| Dustin Ackley - Seattle
Mariners - He is coming into the 2011 draft a bit
overrated, but he should be watched in spring training
a considered as a late draft pick. The second overall
pick in the 2009 draft had a good combination batting
average and power reminiscent of Chase Utley and has more
speed. The only problem is he has never played in the
big leagues and in his 1 year in AA and AAA he batted
.267 with 7 home runs, 8 triples, 33 doubles and 10 stolen
bases.
The question isn't about his talent it is about his experience.
He has yet to even make the team, not to mention the woeful
Seattle offense. Nevertheless, with all his talent Dustin
Ackley should be on your fantasy draft board. |
2B |
| Freddie Freeman - Atlanta
Braves - The Braves only have lefty Eric Hinske
to compete against Freeman, so Freeman has an excellent
chance to start at first base. It is likely that Hinske
would see a good amount of time against right-handers
which makes Freeman more of a risk.
Freeman batted .319 with 18 home runs, 35 doubles and
87 RBI's in AAA Gwinnett. The 21-year-old lefty will get
playing time and may even start, but there is risk in
that he may not top 400 at bats for the season. |
1B |
| Brent Morel - Chicago
White Sox - The 24-year-old started much of the
last month of the 2010 season and is the favorite to win
the starting job in 2011. Morel popped three home runs
and stole two bases while batting .231 in his short up
last season after he batted .306 with eight home runs
and in AAA Charlotte. |
3B |
| Mike Moustakas - Kansas
City Royals - The 2nd-overall-pick in the 2007
draft has been patiently making his way through the minors
where he has pounded 74 home runs, 102 doubles while batting
.282 average with 1513 at bats.
Moustakas will be just turing 22 and the Royals do not
want to rush him, but if he has a good spring training,
he is likely to stay on, if not he will get the call at
some point in 2011. The only question is when he will
produce the fantasy numbers. |
3B |
| Chris Carter - Oakland
Athletics - He has big-time power, but doesn't
make enough contact to be a great hitter at this point
of his young career. He batted .258 with 31 home runs
in AAA Sacramento after hitting 24 home runs with a .337
batting average with AA Midland (258 strikeouts in the
2 seasons).
With Daric Barton and Conor Jackson at first and Hideki
Matsui set at DH, he will have a hard time finding playing
time, but if he starts knocking them out, he will play
somewhere. |
1B |
| Jesus Montero - New
York Yankees - The Yankees are doing their best
to be patient and let their prized-catching-prospect mature,
but it is likely and some point in 2011 Montero will make
his debut.
Montero batted .289 with 21 home runs and 34 doubles in
2010 AAA Scranton and more importantly, he played well
defensively. The Yankees signed Russell Martin and have
the solid Francisco Cervelli and even Jorge Posada can
catch a bit if necessary, so there still isn't much of
a rush for Montero. His spring training will determine
whether he is a late season 2011 call-up or a possible
fantasy rookie sensation. |
